We’ll be taken on a journey to the past with exhibitions and meetings revealing the traditions and history of one of the most fascinating of Kraków’s suburbs.
Zwierzyniec – once a village, later a suburb and today a district of Kraków – has a beguiling history and a wealth of traditions. The courtyard of the Norbertine Convent is the starting point of the annual Lajkonik parade and it hosts the popular Emaus Indulgence every Easter Monday; it’s also the birthplace of the tradition of Cracovian nativity scenes, dating back to the mid-19th century. The history and folklore of Kraków’s suburbs is introduced by the Museum of Krakow through exhibitions and events hosted in a typical suburban tenement house from the turn of the 20th century. The permanent exhibition Suburban Apartment a Century Ago presents everyday objects, many of which now seem mysterious.
