Alluring Animations
The 10th Krakow Summer Animation Days (26-29 July) will be a wonderful celebration of animations from all over the globe, held at under open skies at the Small Market Square! The programme features the best short films of recent years, including Oscar-nominated productions alongside movies made by the Slovak Film Institute and the Fest Anča International Animation Festival to celebrate 25 years of Slovak animation. We will also see productions awarded at the Etiuda&Anima International Film Festival in Kraków, the Anima Brussels Animation Film Festival and the Volda Animated Film Festival in Norway. The Oscar-nominated Loving Vincent (dir. Dorota Kobiela, Hugh Welchman) is a must-see. The film which captivated audiences the world over was painstakingly made using painting techniques, with 125 artists from around the globe coming together to bring van Gogh’s paintings to life. The programme also includes Aurel Klimt’s Laika. The puppet animation from the Czech Republic tells the story of the first canine cosmonaut, launched into space onboard the Soviet satellite Sputnik 2 in 1957. The Kraków Summer Animation Days also include animation workshops for young kids and classes in video production for teenagers. Summer is the perfect time for open air film screenings – let’s make the most of i! (Barbara Zając, Karnet magazine)
