It was originally founded to promote art rooted in homegrown traditions and aimed to protect its unique character and artistic values. This year, Cepelia is commemorating its 70th anniversary, with celebrations coinciding with the 43rd International Folk Art Fair in Kraków. This year’s encounter with folk artists, held under the banner “Saving Disappearing Beauty”, focuses on the goal of preserving material and intangible cultural heritage of Poland’s rural areas. Between 8 and 25 August, the Main Market Square is filled with potters, lacemakers, embroiderers, weavers, sculptors and artists painting on glass, showcasing the vast diversity of their techniques, styles, patterns and colours. Events will be accompanied by performances by song and dance ensembles and music groups. Each day of the fair is dedicated to a different region (we will see guests from Jabłonka, Lipnica Wielka, Pińczów and Wielka Wieś) and visitors from Slovakia, Romania and Hungary. (Anna Mazur)
