“What Were You Thinking?” – An Exhibition of Children's Works at the Galicia Jewish Museum

Let the small works of art, which were created by your children, be mounted among the works of the true master of imagination, Jan Marcin Szancer, to whom a new exhibition at the Galicia Jewish Museum will be devoted. We would like to invite you to participate in an exhibition of children's works, titled “What Were You Thinking?”

The expression “What Were You Thinking?” does not need to have negative connotations – it is simply a question about what is going on inside someone's head. What your children are imagining, and how far do their dreams reach? Their small works of art will create a gallery which we will mount together with the artworks of Jan Marcin Szancer, the Polish master of illustration and imagination.

We do not impose any special technique on you. The method of creating one's work depends on you. But we do encourage you to get inspiration from the works of Jan Marcin Szancer. The submitted works will be framed and displayed at an exhibition of children's works entitled “What Were You Thinking?” at the Galicia Jewish Museum. We will organise an adult-like exhibition opening, with photographers, interviews, and some non-alcoholic champagne. Let your children take their first steps on an artistic path!

In the upcoming weeks we will show you a few ideas that might inspire you about how to create small works of art from seemingly trivial objects.
All of the information on the exhibition can be found at the Facebook page of the museum.

The exhibition of children's works, “What Were You Thinking?” is an accompanying event to the exhibition that is in the process of creation, “Szancer. Imagine That!” by the Galicia Jewish Museum, which will be a narrative on the life and works of the prominent Polish illustrator, Jan Marcin Szancer. His books shaped the imagination of many generations of Poles, and that is why it is worth remembering them and discovering them yet again.

Please send one selected work per child along with a brief artist’s bio and please keep to the required format: A3 or A4. Scans or photos can be sent to: paulina@galiciajewishmuseum.org, while original works can be delivered to the Museum by post or in person (ul. Dajwór 18) until June 15, 2020.

The works will also be presented on the Facebook profile of the Galicia Jewish Museum. Sending the work is tantamount to agreeing to including them in the exhibition and in the media of the Galicia Jewish Museum.
