The exhibition prepared by the Museum of Krakow and partners, launches a wide-ranging discussion about the current role of the Vistula in our daily lives.
The starting point of the debate on the contemporary role played by the river – which is mainly recreational – is supported by a wide range of historical references. The exhibition recalls the Vistula’s major function as a transport route, and the importance of raftsmen from villages surrounding Kraków. The organisers are also stressing the importance of environmental protection. “The exhibition presents different perspectives, fosters discussion and gives voice to a range of different speakers,” explains curator Mateusz Niemiec. Many accompanying events will be held at locations other than the museum, for example on barges on the river.
