Back to School

If your kids are feeling blue about going back to school, cheer them up by helping them make a fun starter kit. What can be better than home-made materials! Today we have prepared three colourful accessories bound to bring a smile to everyone’s face.

  • Felt pencil tops

You will need colourful felt, glue, scissors and a needle and thread (optional). Cut out the two main shapes and any decorative elements from the felt. Start by gluing the smallest pieces to the main parts, then glue or sew the two main elements together making sure you leave a hole for the pencil.

  • Bookmarks

Bookmarks are easy to make from coloured cardboard. Personalise them by printing out your favourite characters, then cutting them out and sticking them to the bookmark. Decorate the edges with a contrasting yarn fringe!

  • Reusable snack bags

The bags are made from thin, patterned cotton fabric. Cut out a long rectangle from the fabric – adjust the dimensions to the size you want your bag to be. Fold the rectangle in half and sew two sides together, leaving a margin about 3 cm wide. Turn over the top edge and sew it down to form a tunnel which you will use to thread with string. You can easily make these by hand, but if you have a sewing machine, now’s the perfect chance to teach your kids how to use it!
