Midsummer Night, St John's Eve... Call it whatever you want, but it’s the shortest night of the year and that is something to celebrate! This year's edition of the Wianki in Krakow, an event that draws on Slavic traditions, will run for a little longer than usual. Many of its attractions will be located along the banks of the Vistula River. The main highlights are scheduled for Saturday. The Powiśle Stage at Wielkiej Armii Napoleona Square will host Polish artists - Natalia Przybysz, Rubens and Zalia, as well as winners of the European HEMI competition - Slovenian singer-songwriter and harpist Astrid and Hungarian electronic music band Freakin' Disco. Wreath-weaving stations will be set up all around the Planty Park, and the most beautiful wreath will be chosen in a traditional competition in Powiśle. On Sunday morning, you can expect a concert at dawn organised jointly with the EtnoKraków/Crossroads festival. Throughout the weekend, a number of city institutions will join the celebrations as well! The Krakow Museum hosts a cruise with a floating exhibition of historical photos of the city and nature cruises, the Wawel Royal Castle offers an opportunity to explore the mysteries of the hill's legendary past, the Management Board of Green Areas hosts a picnic to celebrate the opening of Tetmajer Park, and the Nuremberg House joins forces with the Ethnographic Museum to host an open-air celebration of the 45th anniversary of cooperation between Krakow and Nuremberg on Skałeczna Street. In addition, we are looking forward to the opening of Petra Krischke's Futuristic Dream Lawn installation by the Cricoteka, kayaking classes at the 1929 Railway Water Club Marina, the City Reactivation conference at the Design Pharmacy on Wesoła Street and the St John Fair on Czerwieński Boulevard organised by the IMAGO Folk Art Centre and the Krakow Cultural Forum. (Bartosz Suchecki, Karnet)
