  • Krakus Mound, al. Powstańców Śląskich / ul. Wielicka

Once upon a time, on a hill by the Vistula, the valiant Prince Krak decided to build a castle, which was soon surrounded by a splendid city… On 18 April, the Traditional Rękawka Festival takes us back in time by a thousand years to show us the everyday lives of the Vistulans and Polans during the reign of the “Mighty strong Prince, sitting on the Vistula” (this year’s festival’s motto). By the Krakus Mound we will experience life in early-mediaeval settlements, learn about ancient crafts and admire knights’ armour and everyday costumes. The Krak Vistula Warriors Squad hosts two re-enactments presenting the Prince and his daughter, Princess Wanda. The steep slopes of the hill are the perfect vantage point for admiring the warriors clad in full armour running around the mound, and watching re-enactments of the battle between the Vistulans and invaders from Moravia and the burial of Prince Krak, including the building of his tomb. There will also be plenty to keep kids occupied, including ropemaking workshops, games and dances, and Spring Pageant and Marzanna rituals. (bf)
