The Miraculous Power of Bouquets competition is held for the eighth time on 15 August. It fills the Small Market Square with fragrant herbs of mint, chamomile, wormwood and St John’s wort and meadow flowers of campanulas, poppies, cornflowers and daisies. Holy Mass at the Basilica of St Mary is followed by a pageant with bouquets, led by Lidia Jazgar and with the participation of the Congregation of Cracovian Merchants and the Association of Friends of Bronowice. Herbal bouquets blessed during celebrations of the Assumption of Mary were once said to take on healing powers, and they were kept for the rest of the year to protect the household against disease and misfortune.
