The end of the peaceful holidays is just around the corner, and as it creeps closer, many have begun to prepare for the upcoming autumn, whether that means buying school supplies or regulating sleep schedules. However you are preparing, one thing is certain: the moment of transition from the holiday reality into everyday life is upon us. In Judaism, the moment of separating the holiday of rest, Shabbat, from the rest of the week is called Havdalah. During the penultimate summer workshop at the Galicia Jewish Museum, we will learn about the specifics of this ceremony: what it is about, what are its origins, and what items are used during it. At the end, we will create some of these items together so that – as during Havdalah – they light up the upcoming autumn evenings and spread beautiful fragrances.
